Weather allowing, the streets and old lane ways of Shanghai are festooned with drying laundry.
Bright cloth hang from bamboo poles. Bed linen beat in the breeze. Jackets drape over bikes and bushes. Pillows and shoes also come out. This is a custom locally known as Laundry Day.
The communal airing colourfully decorates the city and temporarily reveals the domestic habits of it’s residents.
When the rain arrives the laundry disappears.
